Pete:SO you are saying ethically its wrong to shop your kid around for 200k..but since there wasnt a law saying its wrong its ok. The truth is that cecil did shop him.. IF cam knew, he should be ruled inelgible for trying to seek funds to play.
14.01.3.2 of the SEC bylaws.
“If at any time before or after matriculation in a member institution a student-athlete or any member of his/her family receives or agrees to receive, directly or indirectly, any aid or assistance beyond or in addition to that permitted by the Bylaws of this Conference (except such aid or assistance as such student-athlete may receive from those persons on whom the student is naturally or legally dependent for support), such student- athlete shall be ineligible for competition in any intercollegiate sport within the Conference for the remainder of his/her college career.”
I guess we are lucky Miss state didnt say ok..So once again you are saying its ok to ask for money...but its only wrong if they give it to you....
well i dont write the rules pete, but yah thats how it is currently. im willing to bet it changes this offseason. the key words are receives or agrees to receive. miss st didnt pay or offer to pay so cecil couldnt agree to receive. asking for money technically isnt agreeing to receive. i can say hey pete how about you give me 20 bucks. you say, sure, then i can always say nevermind. now if state had said we will pay you this for cam and cecil said yes, then yah thats a pretty big violation. and of course its ethically wrong, ethics have nothing to do with any of the ncaa's decisions. should bryant really have been ruled ineligble for talking to deion? no, the ncaa has retarded rules and interpretations and they have no one over them.
both cam and cecil said that cam didnt know. they could be lying but there is really no way to prove that beyond phillip fulmer hiding underneath their house with a tape recorder ready to turn in.
no proof of any benefits, no proof cam knew, no clear cut rule against solicitation, i dont see how you can rule him ineligible no matter how mad everyone gets.
